Tai Chi Chuan
For Health
Long Form Medium Frame
 Tom Cooney: Instructor.

Tai Chi Chuan Is first and foremost a martial art. As history reveals it was developed by Chang San Fen who combined martial technique with internal power development to create an extremely potent martial art.

The Yang style was founded by Yang Lu Chan, and successive generations of the Yang family, most notably Yang Chen Fu in the 1920s was responsible for modifying the old yang form because he noted the health benefits that could be gained by its practice, so he removed the explosive strikes and flying kicks to make it more accessible to the Chinese population, and so it became the most widely practiced style of Tai Chi today.
There are many health benefits to be gained by the regular practice of Tai Chi and Chi Kung and because of its gentle nature in internal aerobics creating external fitness it is accessible to all ages and conditions.
The many proven beneficial effects on a number of conditions such as:
High blood pressure Postural and muscular problems, It will also relieve stress and its related illnesses.
Tai Chi will improve
  • The Digestive system
  • The central nervous system
  • The sympathetic nervous system
  • The cardiovascular system
  • The respiratory system
  • And the Immune system
The Tai Chi form practice increases:
Flexibility, Suppleness and strength while promoting co-ordination and balance
Correct posture is essential to gain the correct body alignment to allow the distribution of chi to flow freely around the body.
The Dan Tien
There are three energy centers in the body:
  • The Upper Dan Tien is located between the eyebrows.
  • The Middle Dan Tien is located at the level of the heart.
  • The Lower Dan Tien is located between the navel area and the pubic bone and is generally the one that is emphasized in chi-kung.

Chi-Kung (standing post) and Wu Chi postures cultivate body awareness and a strong root. (A firm Foundation)
Dan Tian or (Tien) literally means elixir and stores energy like a reservoir and propels chi like a pump throughout the body.
Use the mind when you practice chi-kung and focus on the Dan Tian imagining a small ball pulsating with energy and the vibration of that energy going all around the body.

Breathing is natural so keep it that way

Natural sensations felt are warmth, tingling like pins and needles, and sometimes a buzzing can be felt.

Remember: One Days Effort Will Reap One Days Reward….
